How to Change your Windows Password.

Changing your Windows password regularly helps keep your account secure. Follow the steps below to update your password.

Before You Begin

  • You must know your current password.
  • If you do not know your current password, contact your IT Help Desk for assistance.

Step 1: Open the Windows Security Screen

  1. Press Ctrl + Alt + Delete on your keyboard at the same time.
  2. A blue Windows Security screen will appear.

Step 2: Select Change a Password

  1. Click Change a password from the list of options.

Step 3: Enter Your Password Information

You will see three password fields:

  • Old password – Enter your current password.
  • New password – Enter the new password you want to use.
  • Confirm password – Re-enter your new password exactly as you typed it above.

Tip: Make sure your new password meets your organization's password requirements,

  • Minimun lenght – 8 Characters. 
  • Will need uppercase and lowercase letters, numbers, and special characters. 
  • Can not repeat – The last 4 passwords. 

Step 4: Save Your New Password

  1. Click the arrow (→) or press Enter.
  2. If your password meets your organization's requirements, Windows will update your password.

Step 5: Sign In with Your New Password

  1. Click OK if prompted.
  2. The next time you sign in to Windows, use your new password.
